Learn to Dive Class costs $395, which includes all materials, gear, instruction, etc. All you need is a bathing suit and a towel.
The Learn to Dive course is a very simple, convenient way to learn to Scuba Dive. We will spend 1/2 of the day in the classroom and the other half in the pool. When you register for class, you can come by and pick up your book or we can ship it to you. In your book there are 5 chapters. Before class, you should read the chapters and complete the short series of questions at the end of each chapter called the knowledge reviews (there are also 5 roughly 40 minute videos to watch). We will go over any questions you have on any subject in the book, take the quizzes and exam, and then spend as much time in the pool as possible.
Nothing, short of a bathing suit and towel. Your materials (PADI Open Water Diver coure manaul as well as access to the course videos) are included in your $295 registration fee. We will provide mask, fins, snorkels, wetsuits, tanks, weights, bc’s and regulators – everything you need to go diving.
We work with over 15 pools between Northern Virginia and Philadelphia – most Saturdays and Sundays we have 2-3 different classes happening that you can jump in. You can use the course finder to the left to search for your course by date/location.
Once you have done your class and pool training, all you need to do to get your Dive Certification is your training dives. You can do this in one of two ways. You can complete your training dives with us on any one of our training dive weekends, or you can do your training dives with any PADI dive shop anywhere in the world. If you want to finish up with us, visit our website or stop by the store and register for a training dive weekend. If you want to finish elsewhere, this is called a referral. We will give you paperwork that says you have successfully completed your class and pool work. You arrange to do your training dives with a shop at the destination of your choice, and give them the referral paperwork upon your arrival.
You will need to watch a set of course videos (5 videos, roughly 3 hours of total run time) and complete the five knowledge reviews in the Learn to Dive text book. The course has been created to teach everyone from the age of 10 on up- so the information is not difficult but it does take time to go through. For this reason it is best to allow adults at least two or three evenings to get through the material, and children more time. Please remember that if you choose the book shipping option it will take 2-3 business days for the books to reach you. You are always welcome to pick the books up in one of our stores.
Our course is offered in an accelerated format. For the majority of students, this format is highly successful. If you have attention span difficulties, you may want to consider a course that is offered at a slower pace. If you aren’t able to master the skills you need in one of our sessions, you can repeat the course as often as you’d like for $25/session – we will keep working with you to make sure you get the training you need. If you have any questions on whether this is the right course for you, please give us a call to discuss.
Yes- all students must do 12 lenghts of the pool with mask, fins and snorkel on (untimed – you can go as slow as you want) and a 10 minute float. You do not need to be an expert swimmer, but you do need to be comfortable in the water.
No. All student that succesfully complete their class/pool work will leave with their referral paperwork in hand. If you do happen to lose it and need a replacement we do have a $25 admin fee for recreating your referral documents.
We have created an online study portal called ScubaGenius that will help you study for your class. You can get a FREE two day login and check it out anytime, so you can start learning right now – click here to log into ScubaGenius.
Our courses are exclusively PADI courses. PADI is the largest and most recognized training agency in the world. A PADI certification is universally accepted, wherever you may find yourself wanting to dive.
If you would like to do eLearning for your book work you can click here to register for your eLearning course. It is more expensive to do the course this way (it costs an additional $130 for the eLearning component) and the way our course is structured it will only save you a a bit of time on the day of your course, but if you learn better or feel more comfortable using the online tools we can definitely work with you to do your course this way.
