What Can You See Diving in the Chesapeake Bay?
There are a number of cool things to do and see diving in the Bay. Probably the most popular diving activity is oyster diving. Divers are allowed to collect a bushel of oysters in a day of diving, which is quite a lot of oysters! There are also quite a few great wrecks to dive in the bay. Becuase they are not dove very frequently many of the wrecks still have artifacts that you can find!

How Is the Visibility?
The visibility in the bay will be limited for the most part. Between 5' and 20' is average.

Will The Water be Cold?
The water temperature like the visibility in the bay can vary depending on the currents and time of year. You should choose your thermal protection based on the temperature and your preferences.

The average water temperatures, by month:

  • October - 68º F
  • November - 53º F
  • December - 48º F

Are Oyster Dives One Tank of Two?
Each diver is allowed to take 1 bushel of oysters. Generally we work as a team and keep diving until we have a bushel for everyone. Most divers will use two tanks, but for some divers one tank will be enough. We will depart the dock at 8:00am for Oyster dives and generally be back around 12:00 or 12:30.

What are the Departure Times?
All AM charters leave at 8:00am, PM charters leave at 1:00pm.

Where Does the Boat Leave From?
The boat is in the Pier 7 Marina, which is located on Route 2 in Edgewater, just south of the South River Bridge. It is just minutes from Route 50.

Do I Need Any Special Equipment?
For Oyster Dives, you should have a mesh bag to put your oysters in. For Wreck Dives, the water will probably be dark so divers should have a flashlight.

How Deep are the Dives?
Oysters Dives are generally shallow - less than 20 feet. Most of the wrecks we will do will also be relatively shallow, with the deepest being around 60 or 70 feet.

I am a New Diver - Can I Do This?
Diving in the Bay is fun for divers of all skill levels. If you are new to diving, consider starting with Oyster Dives. The diving is different from Caribbean Diving - the water is colder and the visibility isn't quite as good. Participating in the Oyster Dives is a great introduction to Bay Diving.

Is Gear Provided?
Gear is not provided but is available for rent and can be delivered to you at the dock by Atlantic Edge Dive Center. To reserve gear, please call us at 866-550-3483.

Most of our trips will call for arrival at the dock at 7:00am with a departure time of 7:30am. We have a number of docks in the Ocean City area that we will use, and we will communicate with you by phone and email the exact departure location in the week leading up to your dives.

What Safety Equipment is On the Boat?
Our dive boat is equipped with a 10 man Cal-June life raft, an ACR 406 MHz EPIRB, a cockpit VHF radio, a handheld VHF radio, onboard Radar, throwable life ring, life vests, first aid kit and an emergency O2 (Oxygen) delivery system.

Can I Bring My Doubles Setup?
Yes. We will make every possible accommodation to make every diver as comfortable as possible with whatever gear setup they are most comfortable diving with.
