This is a GREAT Time to Buy Scuba
Gear
|
|
Just like the car manufacturers,
home builders and seemingly everyone else, scuba gear manufacturers are
offering some truly awesome incentives to purchase dive gear.
These are once in a lifetime incentives that aren't going to last long,
so if you have ever thought about purchasing gear and taking your diving
to the next level you should think hard about doing it now.
Aqualung is offering $100 discounts off regulators,
free BC integrated Alternate Air Sources, and discounts of up $850
on travel when you make a gear purchase. The most amazing
thing about these incentives is that they can all be used on the same
purchase. By the time you take all the incentives and
promotions into account it's possible to get a $1600 set of gear
for a net price of $400!
If you have thought about buying gear or are interested
in learning more about some of the great deals going on give us a call,
one of our knowledgeable Dive Consultants would love to help you.
Our phone number is 866-550-DIVE(3483).

Loads
of Teeth Found on First Shark Tooth Collecting Trip
|
|
Our first trip down to Venice to hunt
for Shark Teeth was last week, and it was a huge success! Everybody
found teeth, with lots and lots of variety of different things to find.
'I was really pleasantly surprised with all the
different types of teeth and fossils we were finding down there',
says Trip Leader John Harman. 'In a lot of spots you
are just finding one kind of tooth, but in Venice you find fossils
from all different kinds of sharks, whales, stingrays.... there's
really a lot to find.'

How
to Perform a Pre-Dive Safety Check
|
|
(from
scuba.about.com)
One
of the most important parts of every dive is the pre-dive safety check,
which is also known as a buddy check. You should always carry out this
check with your buddy before beginning the dive.
The pre-dive safety check has two functions: you ensure that all of your
buddy's equipment is working as it should; and you familiarize yourself
with your buddy's equipment so that you are aware of how to release their
weights and releases, use their deflator, and use their alternate air
source, all of which may be necessary in the event of any difficulties
during the dive.
You should do the check once you've donned all of your equipment, with
the exception of your mask and fins. It's a good idea to do the check
while you're still on the boat or shore, but if you happen to forget you
can still do it in the water before descending......

Our
Bay - Our Choice
|
|
As
part of the Smart, Green & Growing initiative, the Department of
Natural Resources has released a Top 10 list of action items citizens
can do to save the Chesapeake Bay. Recently,
scientists and environmental experts noted that some river
systems may have reached a "tipping point," where
self-reinforcing elements within the ecosystem are working to maintain
either positive or negative trends. An increase in underwater bay
grasses, for example, can promote the growth of more bay grasses,
improving water clarity, increasing oxygen levels and providing better
habitat for fish and crabs.
