Scuba Diving Internships Available
|
|

Atlantic Edge has two new Internship programs for college
students and recent graduates looking to gain experience. We have
immediate openings for two summer Marketing Interns. Summer
marketing interns will work with us to promote our scuba diving classes
and trips in a variety of different capacities. For University of
Maryland students this program has already been approved for
credit. For students of other universities we will work with you
and your university to set it up to be recognized for credit.
We also have a 12 month Instructional Internship
available. This program is designed for someone who wants to get
into scuba diving as a full time job. In this internship we will
train you as a PADI Divemaster and PADI Instructor and teach you the
inner workings of how a successful dive operation runs. You
will gain exposure to all aspects of the dive industry
including retail, training, travel, equipment repair and a dive
charter operation, to successfully prepare you for a career in any area
of the dive industry you choose.

Play
Underwater Hockey
|
|
The Beltway Bottom Feeders, DC's
Underwater Hockey team, is playing in Maryland. Underwater
hockey is a fast moving game that quickly builds swimming and free diving
capability, enhancing your SCUBA diving skills. It is played on the
bottom of a 6-8 feet swimming pool by two teams of six. Players wear
fins, mask, and snorkel and use a short stick approximately 1 foot long made
of wood or plastic polymer. The puck is heavy, around 3 lb. and coated
with a protective layer of hard plastic. Play and strategy is similar to
soccer or ice hockey except that the playing surface is at the bottom of
a pool! Despite the name, this is a "non-contact" co-ed sport
that provides fun for people of all ages.
Maryland practices are at Georgetown Prep on Wednesdays
from 8-9pm.
Beginners are always welcome! Please visit the team's web page
at
www.underwaterhockey.com for
more information.

Help
Save Sea Otters
|
|
Once
on the brink of extinction, California's sea otters have been slowly
recovering over the last seventy years. But recently, sea otter
populations have stagnated, prompting concern among conservationists and
scientists.
Biologists need to be able to study causes of sea otter deaths in order
to help save these beloved animals -- and the Southern Sea Otter Recovery
and Research Act will provide vital funding to do just that.
