 Overfishing, Diving and You
Currently there is deliberation surrounding the National Environmental Policy Act ( NEPA ) that changes the way NEPA works. NEPA has functioned to manage fishing and other environmental issues surrounding the ocean. The new changes make protecting fish and other sea animals more difficult. To read more about the proposed changes to NEPA and their impact, click here. How can you help? Quite simply, by signing a petition asking the crafters and supporters of this legislation to relook at it. This is a very very simple way to have your voice heard.  The HSUS, HSI Make Progress in Efforts to Protect Sharks
The Humane Society of the United States and its international arm Humane Society International have been working to protect sharks by ending shark fishing tournaments and reducing the consumption of shark fin soup.
"As with whales, elephants, gorillas and tigers, shark populations are of very significant concern," said Andrew Rowan, Ph.D., president of HSI and executive vice president of The HSUS. "Sharks as top predators play an important role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. We must act now to stem the alarming decline of many shark species in the world's oceans." ( cont'd )
